In the wake of the 9/11 attacks, the United States government embarked on a global campaign known as the "War on Terror." As part of this campaign, the infamous detention camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba was established to hold suspected terrorists. Among those imprisoned at Guantanamo were a number of British citizens, including Peter Millar.
In his book Slow Train to Guantanamo, Millar provides a gripping and moving account of his experiences at the detention camp. He describes the horrific conditions he and other prisoners were subjected to, including sleep deprivation, solitary confinement, and torture. Millar also recounts the resilience and camaraderie of his fellow prisoners, and the ways in which they resisted their captors.
Slow Train to Guantanamo is a powerful indictment of the injustices perpetrated by the United States government in the name of fighting terrorism. It is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the human cost of the War on Terror.
