About the Author
Tara Westover was born in 1986 in Clifton, Idaho. She was raised by survivalist parents who believed that the end of the world was imminent. Westover did not attend school until she was seventeen years old, and she had never seen a doctor or dentist until she was nineteen.
Despite her unconventional upbringing, Westover went on to earn a PhD in history from Cambridge University. She is now a professor of history at the University of Texas at Austin.
Somewhere There Is Still Sun is Westover's first book. It was published in 2018 and was an instant bestseller. The book has been translated into more than thirty languages and has won numerous awards, including the National Book Critics Circle Award for Autobiography and the PEN/Jean Stein Book Award.
