I didn't know how to help her, and I didn't know how to protect myself from her.<br><br> My mother's illness had a profound impact on my life. I grew up feeling like I was always walking on eggshells. I was afraid to say or do anything that would set her off. I became a people-pleaser, always trying to make everyone else happy so that I wouldn't be the cause of any conflict.<br><br> When I was 18 years old, my mother died by suicide. I was devastated. I felt like I had lost my best friend, and I didn't know how I was going to go on without her.<br><br> In the years since my mother's death, I have come to terms with her illness. I understand that she was not responsible for her actions, and I forgive her for the pain she caused me.<br><br> I have also learned that I am not alone. Millions of people around the world are affected by mental illness. I want to share my story to help others who are struggling with this issue.
